Berlin

Berlin is the only major city where the night is measured in days. A Saturday that starts at 01:00 and ends on Monday morning is not an anecdote here, it is the schedule. Door policies are severe and the sound systems justify them.

Ibiza

Eivissa

For five months a year this island runs the world’s club economy, and for seven it is a quiet Mediterranean rock. Book around residencies, not around venues: the same room is a different night depending on whose name is on the poster.

Bangkok

Bangkok earned the Time Out crown in 2026 by being genuinely three cities at once: a rooftop city above the fortieth floor, a listening-bar city in the sois, and a proper techno city in Thonglor and Ekkamai. Closing times are officially early and practically negotiable.

London

London’s night lives under railway arches and behind industrial estates, because that is where the licences are. The result is a city of specific rooms rather than grand ones: go for the sound system and the booking, not the address.

New York

New York City

Manhattan sells bottles; Brooklyn and Queens run the actual scene. The last decade moved the centre of gravity to Bushwick, Ridgewood and the industrial edge of Greenpoint, where the licences are cheap and the rooms are dark.

Tokyo

東京

Tokyo runs on the last train and the first train, with a four-hour gap in between that clubs have organised themselves around: you either leave at midnight or you stay until five. The reward for staying is the most carefully tuned sound in the world.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam solved the problem other cities argue about: a handful of venues hold 24-hour licences, so the good nights simply keep going. The centre is for tourists; take the ferry north or the tram west.

São Paulo

São Paulo does not really have a Saturday night; it has a Sunday morning. Rooms fill at three and peak at seven. The west — Barra Funda and Lapa — carries the electronic scene; the centre carries everything else.

Paris

Paris opens late and closes later than its reputation suggests. The good rooms are small, technically serious, and mostly clustered along the eastern arc from Bastille up to La Villette. The Seine does the rest.

Miami

Miami’s defining format is the terrace that does not close: you arrive at three and leave in daylight. Downtown and Wynwood carry the serious music; the beach carries the money.

Mexico City

Mexico City’s night is unusually layered: the same evening can hold a mezcal bar, a 1937 dance hall, a rooftop over Juárez and a basement playing hard techno until seven. Roma and Juárez are walkable; everything else is a cheap taxi.

Lisbon

Lisboa

Lisbon is the city §7.2 has in mind: nobody asks for the best club in the world, they ask where to go out here. Bairro Alto is a street party until two, and only then does anyone move to a room. The batida and kuduro scenes make it sound like nowhere else in Europe.

Mumbai

मुंबई

Mumbai closes at 1:30am by law, so the city front-loads: dinner at nine, room at eleven, everything decided by midnight. Bandra is where the interesting music is; Lower Parel is where the money is. The legal drinking age here is 25, and it is checked.

Seoul

서울

Seoul does not really close. Itaewon carries the international crowd and the best techno rooms; Hongdae is younger, cheaper and louder. Bring ID — the legal age is 19 and it is checked everywhere.

Johannesburg

Amapiano was made here and Johannesburg still hears it first. The Sunday session is the defining format — a long afternoon that runs into the night — and Maboneng and Braamfontein are where a visitor should start.

Athens

Athens is the best-value great night in Europe. The scene grew out of self-organised spaces in Exarchia and Keramikos and kept that character: cheap, late, outdoors from May to October, and unbothered by anyone’s dress code.

Milan

Milano

Milan treats the early evening as seriously as the late one — the aperitivo is not a warm-up, it is half the night. The clubs are design objects, and during fashion week the guest list becomes the whole story.

Melbourne

Melbourne has the best small-bar culture in the English-speaking world and a club scene hidden behind unmarked laneway doors. Licences run late and the city rewards knowing where to look.

Manchester

Manchester built modern British club culture and never quite handed the title back. The Northern Quarter carries the bars, but the serious rooms are in the arches and mills further out.

Glasgow

Glasgow crowds are the best in Britain and everyone who plays here says so unprompted. The rooms are unglamorous on purpose; the point is what happens on the floor.

Medellín

Reggaeton’s second home, and increasingly a techno city too. El Poblado is where visitors go; Laureles is where the night is better and cheaper.

Cape Town

A seasonal city: December to February is the whole conversation. The night is more relaxed than Johannesburg and considerably more scenic.

Sydney

Sydney lost a decade to the lockout laws and is still rebuilding. What survived is smaller and more determined; do not expect Melbourne’s density, and do go early.
